  • Face mask are not allowed.
  • Makeup can only cover half the face.
  • No facsimile weapons
  • Costumes must be sensitive to other cultures, religions, or political views. If they are not, you will be asked to change.

September 25th, from 4-8PM, and 26th, from 4-7:30 PM, WHMS will be holding Student Led Conferences.

If you have never been to a student led conference, feel free to watch this video for a more detailed introduction to the idea of Student Led Conferences.

Your student has put together a portfolio of work and information to review during the conference. This includes samples from each class, a letter, the school expectations summary, and a few other examples of the work your students does for 7 hours a day.

This is a great opportunity to see what your student is working on, meet your student's teachers, and learn more about the recent Standard Based Grading change.

We will also have a Book Fair, a Waffle Love truck (Homeroom will provide coupons), a raffle for prizes, and the counselor's survey booth.

Parents and Guardians,

We are looking forward to the new year! I hope you are, too. We have had wonderful changes over the summer and many more exciting experiences to come.

The last few years West Hills Middle School has been working towards a system called Standard Referenced Grading (SRG), often referred to as Proficiency or Mastery grading. We have spent many professional days researching best practices, determining resources, and creating curriculum to effectively transition.

Our teachers have spent many hours unpacking their standards, creating proficiency scales, and developing viable common assessments. We are ready to begin this year. You may have recognized Standard Referenced Grading in some classes in previous years. Many departments were ready to jump in last year. This year, it will be a school-wide grading policy.

Attached is a little more information on Standard Referenced Grading. In addition, there will be a short presentation during Back to School Night this Monday after the PTSA presentation.

We hope to see you there.

Memory Books (Wednesday)

A limited number of Memory Books are available to purchase on Wednesday, May 29th during 4th period ($35 Cash or Check Only).  To check and see if you have paid for a memory book, check Skyward under "Fee Management".

Graduation Checkouts 5/30/19 (Thursday)

Please contact the attendance office earlier than later if you plan on checking your students out for graduation. This helps us alleviate wait times and get students to the office in an orderly fashion.

Thursday is the last day of school for 7th Graders (Thursday)

Buses will run their regular schedules on Thursday. Both 7th and 8th graders should arrive home at their regular times.

Thursday 9th Grade Lagoon Day (Thursday)

We received updated information regarding 9th Grade Lagoon Day... See Below

We are looking forward to helping you provide an exciting, successful, and safe experience for your students this year. Following the same procedure as last year, as each bus is loaded and an adult chaperone is on board (at least one chaperone is required on each bus), please let it depart for Lagoon.  Your assistance with this process last year helped alleviate some of the waiting on the bus and congestion at the ticket gates.

Please remind your teachers and staff that only 9th-grade students from your school and adult chaperones may ride the bus.  In accordance with District Policy AA416, children of chaperones are not allowed to ride the bus.

This year, the rides close at 4:00 p.m. and the park closes at 5:00 p.m.  Several of our buses will be completing their take-home routes and navigating possible traffic on the way back to Lagoon, so please be patient.  Pick-up buses should arrive to Lagoon around 5:00 p.m.  For the safety of everyone, please have your designated chaperones report to their assigned school bus loading area no later than 4:45 p.m. for a short procedural meeting with Transportation staff.  Students and chaperones may begin loading at 5:00 p.m.  All buses will depart by 5:15 p.m.  As mentioned above, buses will not depart until an adult chaperone is on board.

If you have questions, let us know.

Friday is the last day of school for 8th and 9th graders (5/31/2019)

School ends at 11:50 am and buses are scheduled for that time. Movers want to have everything out of the building ASAP, so please make sure your student has a way home immediately after school.
